Building Collective Efficacy: What process did your school take in developing your School Growth Plan?

Staff collaborated and reviewed current school evidence to identify successes and challenges facing Cherryville students. Goals were aligned to SD22 Strategic Plan pillars of Student Success, Leadership Excellence, and Community Connections.

Evidence-Informed: What data is driving your goal(s)?

A variety of sources of evidence are used to inform decision making and goal setting/reflection: numeracy and literacy data from EdPlan Insight, student learning updates in literacy and numeracy, “ How Are We Doing” reports - Indigenous data, Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA), student surveys, BC Ministry of Education and Child Care Student Learning Survey, qualitative student information

Actions: What will we do to support all learners?

*Teachers work to meet students at their level with literacy and provide activities and lessons to help move each student forward. *Ensure the equitable use of available resources to meet the needs of each student *home reading materials are provided for students *Students are encouraged to own their learning through goal setting and self reflection * Buddy reading * Providing text that is interesting and relevant for students * Community volunteers reading weekly with students * Targeted teaching: Heggerty Program, Rime Magic, Words Their Way, Secret Stories Phonics Program, guided reading

Throughout the year, staff are reflecting on the strategies being used and making changes as a result of how are students are responding and making gains with their reading skills. We look at data sources through the year as well ex: pm benchmarks, fsa results

Actions: What will we do to support all learners?

Goal 1 Actions: Assemblies - used to discuss code of conduct, student behavior expectations, students sharing their work, games/dances in house team groups. Parents and family are welcome to attend our assemblies. Parent emails/monthly calendars, newsletters with updates to keep our families informed about what is happening at the school. Winter Concert - Parents and community members are invited to our winter showcase. Play is the Way - Our whole school program works on manners, being kind to each other. Implemented school wide in classrooms and assemblies. language is used school wide. Community partnership activities - Earth Day activities. Building bird houses for Hanson Park. Older students helping with senior supper set up at the community hall, snow shovelling at the community hall, local food bank. Goal 2 Actions: Embedding Indigenous culture and ways of knowing are important to our staff Outdoor education program Working with the district Indigenous lead teachers and using their knowledge Embedding the First People’s Principles of Learning into teachings Truth and Reconciliation call to action 63 iii - Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect. Acknowledging the syilx unceded traditional territory land that we live, work, and play on each day.

Reflections & Results:

We have had success this year learning syilx language and culture using the syilx language lessons with each class that the Indigenous department created for SD22. We also had the privilege of Sheryl Newton teaching us about Indigenous governance and doing a mapping activity.
